Brass From the Past is built with some of Chicagoland’s top-tier touring and studio players…musicians who have performed with The Temptations, The O’Jays, Ray Charles, Bob Hope, Tony Bennett, Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, The Four Freshman, Natalie Cole, Anne Murray, Rita Moreno, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, Steve Allen, Dennis De Young of Styx, Sammy Davis, Jr., Eddie King, Aura, and many other international acts.
Jeff Anthony (vocals)
Jeff has over 19 years of stage and studio experience. He has performed with many bands ranging from original alternative rock and blues/rock to swing standards and has contributed lead and background vocals to several CDs.
Paula Creech McEvers (vocals)
Growing up in the small town of Louisa, Kentucky, Paula never imagined she would end up singing in Germany, Spain, Italy, and Canada and acting across the United States. Her musical influences range from Bluegrass to Broadway (with a little operatic training on the side for this country gal).
After a decade of performing in Las Vegas style shows at sea she decided to put down roots and make Chicago her home. Paula’s dynamic personality shines thru in every show.
Kimberly Williams (vocals)
Kimberly Williams (formerly Wilson), has been singing professionally for more than 20 years in varying capacities, and with different groups. Her musical journey includes participation in show choirs, jazz bands, gospel choirs, recording sessions, musicals, jingles and a host of live performances, both here and abroad. Kimberly is a singer, songwriter and creative soul.

John Tomassone (trumpet & leader)
John Tomassone is the founder and leader of BRASS FROM THE PAST. It was his passion for this music and vision that started the band. John markets the band, brings in new talent, and locates performance venues and opportunities, and has amassed a large music library specifically for BFTP.
Tom Forkenbrock (trumpet)
Tom Forkenbrock brings 35 years experience of trumpet playing to Brass From the Past. He played for over 9 years in the US Army Band, performing for Presidents, visiting dignitaries, and the Pan American Games. After the Army, Tom played with several big bands, pit orchestras, wind ensembles and well-known artists. He can also be seen and heard as a regular member of the College of Lake County Wind Ensemble.
Being the youngest of 6 children, he grew up listening and performing the music we now play, and he’s thrilled to have the opportunity to continue performing it. Tom plays lead and section trumpet for BFTP.
Jack Schmidt (trombone)
Jack Schmidt is a well known and in demand Chicago area lead trombonist, jazz soloist, studio session player and private teacher.
As a lead trombonist and soloist, Jack Schmidt has been featured with many well know Chicago bands.
Doug Daniels (alto/tenor sax)
Chicago saxophonist, Doug Daniels’ professional music career began in the early 1990’s as a sideman alto and tenor saxophonist backing the best singers and instrumentalists throughout the central Illinois music scene. It was during these years he gained valuable experience in various musical styles.
Doug has held many hats during his career – saxophonist, organist, and road manager. He toured for 6 years both nationally and internationally, performing in Paris, NYC, Greenwich Village, Barcelona, Santander, Mao’ Menorca, Moscow, Istanbul, Ankara, St. Petersburg, Los Angeles, Seattle, Montreal, to name a few. He appeared on 2 albums and has performed with horn sections backing various acts in Chicago.
Recently Doug has toured with a gospel group and leads his own jazz trio, the Doug Daniels trio (which is for hire in Chicago for corporate events and private parties).
Joel Moore (tenor sax)
Tenor saxophonist and Chicago native Joel Moore specializes in both jazz and rhythm & blues. He received his M.M. in Jazz Pedagogy from the Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory. While in Boston, he studied with several renowned saxophonists and toured throughout New England with a variety of ensembles.
Prior to Berklee, Joel lived in Louisiana and began graduate studies at the University of New Orleans. During this time he performed regularly in the legendary French Quarter with a variety of jazz and R&B bands including a year-long stint as saxophonist during the weekly Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues.
From 1992-1996, Joel studied at Western Illinois University where he earned a B.S. in Media Communications. During this time also toured throughout the United States and Europe and recorded “The Third Degree” (on Sea Breeze Records) in Nashville, which received four stars in Downbeat Magazine.
Joel performs extensively at many of Chicago’s live-music venues and has recorded and performed with various well know artists. Joel is on the faculty of Benedictine University, Lewis University and Prairie State College. Joel recently toured with the Dr. Willie Wilson Gospel Orchestra which contributed humanitarian aid and performed for Hurricane Katrina victims in the Gulf region.
Kurt Anderson (baritone sax / flute)
Kurt is a native of Chicago and earned Music Ed and MBA degrees from Eastern Illinois University. He was at EIU in the late 70’s where he was introduced to the soul & funk bands of that time. He became more than a fan and assembled a funk band to perform around campus. He studied composition and arranging, writing charts for both the university jazz ensemble and “club” band.
Over the years Kurt has kept music an active part of his life, performing with area bands and providing back-up to various artists. He has been with BFTP for several years and has contributed many arrangements to the band’s library.
Barrett Haselwood (bass)
Barrett grew up in Metro Detroit as a teenager he cultivated his love of music by sneaking in to bars to hear great local Detroit Blues Band like the Chisel Brothers. Soon after leaving home Barrett cut his teeth playing on cruise ships around the world.
Playing every night with musicians from around the world gave him thousands of hours of playing which helped make him the player he is today. Leaving the sea behind Barrett settled down in Maui where he learned the laid back musical style of Hawaii. He now lives in Chicago and is proud to be playing with the fine musicians of Brass From The Past.
Robert Presley (keyboards)
Robert Presley is a retired music teacher from North Chicago School District 187, where he taught for 36 years. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from University of Kansas, and Masters of Music Education from the VanderCook College of Music.
In 1979 he started playing professionally (on trumpet) with a North Chicago group called the Magic Band. After the Magic Band, Robert switched to playing keyboards with other area bands (Greg Pitts, CJ and Company, The Last Dance Band) and solo artists.
Robert has performed with Gospel artists including Rev. C.L. Fairchild, Deleon Richards, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. He has perfomred in Japan, Canada, and 10 beautiful states across the USA.
